How TypeBastion works

  1. 01

    Protect eight city blocks

Each block can absorb two hits. A target aimed at a destroyed block transfers damage to the nearest surviving block, so every miss still matters.

  2. 02

    Build accurate combos

Correct characters earn points. Completed words add a length bonus, targets cleared below the danger line add a risk bonus, and long clear streaks increase the multiplier.

  3. 03

    Adapt every 25 seconds

Targets arrive faster as stages advance. Word mode also moves from short common words toward longer vocabulary.

Type the visible letter or continue the locked word.
Enter

P / Escape

Release the active word without changing accuracy.

TT archive

From Typing Tutor to TypeBastion

The game some Chinese players remember simply as “TT” belongs to a longer line of Kriya Systems typing software. Contemporary manuals, packaging, and reviews help separate the earliest version from the later DOS edition remembered by PC users.

  1. 1983–1984

A first-use claim precedes the documented release

Kriya’s U.S. trademark record claims first use of Letter Invaders on May 5, 1983. Independently verifiable packaging, a museum artifact, and a contemporary review document Typing Tutor III with Letter Invaders in 1984—the earliest product evidence we found for the familiar loop.

  2. 1987

Typing Tutor IV expands the game

The fourth edition expands the game with words, rounds, score history, and terrain that is destroyed by missed targets. Its blue-and-green DOS screens and richer sound options are closer to the remembered DOS version described here.

  3. Later

    “TT” becomes the remembered name

The preserved DOS program launches from TT.EXE, and a surviving Chinese runtime demonstration also identifies Typing Tutor IV as TT. We present TT as an informal player name, not as the official title of a separate game.

  4. Today

    TypeBastion carries the idea forward

TypeBastion keeps the pressure of falling type and a vulnerable ground line, while using its own name, rules, scoring, word list, graphics, and synthesized Web Audio soundtrack.

Scores stay on this device

TypeBastion does not require an account. Music preferences, mode and visual-style choices, the top five scores for each mode, and your latest round summary including weak keys are stored in your browser. Clearing site data removes them.

Desktop-first play

The page is readable on a phone, but the live game is designed for a physical English keyboard. TypeBastion does not show a virtual keyboard that would cover the playfield.

TypeBastion questions

Is TypeBastion free?

Yes. The game is free to play and does not require an account or email address.

Does the game upload what I type?

No. Game input is handled in the browser. Preferences, high scores, and your latest round summary including weak keys remain on your device.

Why does audio start only after I press Start?

Modern browsers block automatic audio. Pressing Start provides the user gesture required to activate the original synthesized music and sound effects.

What happens when I switch tabs?

The round pauses automatically. Resume returns through a three-second countdown so targets cannot surprise you.

Is 1987 Classic the original TT game?

No. It is an original TypeBastion visual skin inspired by early DOS-era design language. It does not include the original program, logo, graphics, word list, or audio.
